With Halloween coming up I thought it would be fun to share how we make our decorations and save a bit of money at the same time

Spider: Our eight-legged friends where made using pipe cleaners and yarn

To make a small spider, we took one black pipe cleaner, cut it in half, then cut the halves in half. Then grouping the cut pieces, four total, together we tied black yarn around the middle and started creating the body of the spider by wrapping the yarn around the pipe cleaners several times. Then criss-crossing through the legs (first left, then the right side of the spider) we created our spider body. We finished by tying off the yarn, we left a length hanging so we could hang the spiders from different places.

To make spiders of different sizes use more pipe cleaners. For a medium sized spider use two pipe cleaners cut in half or for a large spider use four pipe cleaners (without cutting).

Ghost: To make our ghost we took white trash bags, cut some squares out of them and placed balled up newspaper in the center of each square, we gathered the edges toward the center and tied at the neck to make the head. To hang them we used a paper clip in the top of the ghosts head and tied on a length of twine. Now we have ghost haunting our front yard!

We have also used construction paper to make pumpkins, witches, mummies, and cats. We hang these decorations in our windows. When we made our paper pumpkins we used and exacto knife to "carve" the pumpkins eyes, nose, and mouth. At night the light from the house will be our candle.
